My Child made his/her First Holy Communion, Now What?

“But my child has already made his/her First Holy Communion!”

How does one respond to a statement such as this. It is heard many times when asked; “Are you going to register this year for Religious Education?”
Our faith life does not end with receiving the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, nor after we are confirmed. Receiving First Holy Communion must mean that there is going to be a second, a third and so on for the rest of one’s life.

Parents, it is necessary to continue to give our children instruction about God, Jesus, the sacraments, the Mass, prayer, the church and the many teachings of our faith. If we are to live our faith and follow Jesus, we must learn more, so we can love more. The more we know about a friend, the more we love that friend. Our children need Jesus to be their friend and to learn more about Him.

During the summer when the religion classes are over, we can still be learning about God and our church by attending Mass. Our Lord comes to us as we gather together to celebrate the Mass. He comes to us in the Word, the stories that are read to us. He comes to us in the bread and the wine in a special way. He stays with us as we are sent to bring the word of God to others as the priest has shown us by his homily, what it is that the readings are asking us to do to serve God and our neighbor. The Mass is the most perfect public worship we have. It has all the types of prayer; petition, praise, thanksgiving, and blessing.

There is strength and sharing when we worship at the Mass with our community. Let’s always put Sunday Mass on our calendars for things we must do.

We will be registering for Religious Education the last two week ends of August. Please mark you calendars — August 21 & 22 and August 28 & 29 after all of the weekend Masses.

Please call Teresa at 297-7271 ext. 203 if you would like information about our Religious Education programs.

Fist Holy Communion

Our children will receive Jesus in the bread and wine for the first time. We will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Eucharist with them all through the Easter season. Congratulations to them and welcome to the Eucharistic table.

Vacation Bible School...

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

Vacation Bible School was a great time for learning, praying, and having fun!"

Thanks to all the adults and teens who made it all happen. Our children who were our crew members (participants) were great. We can’t do this without everyone’s support. God love you and thank you!

High Seas Graphic

Success of a program is usually shown in action. This year our Vacation Bible School children and leaders provided school supplies for Interfaith community Services (ICS). This organization has a food bank and every Monday morning they come to our church and pick up the food that is in the vestibules of the church.

Now our children have collected school supplies to give to ICS for families who need supplies to bring to school. This is what we call the “kid to kid operation”.

“God sightings” have also been an ongoing activity each day. Have you had any “God sightings” this past week? God sightings are happenings that show evidence of God, love, or of God working through others. An example - perhaps they saw a young person helping an elderly person carry groceries.

The music was great that Grace Lohr taught our children. They had fun and learned many things about God such as, God’s word is true! God’s word is comforting. God’s word is surprising. God’s word is life changing. God’s word is for everyone.

Thank you again to 14 adults, 22 teens, and 65 crew members for a great week!

Something To Think About

NEEDED: The thing that is most needed in homes today is a family.

The Perfect Prayer:

The most perfect prayer we have as Catholic Christians is the Eucharistic celebration that we call the Mass.
